SURRY HILLS, NSW

2018

Seeded from the nostalgia of the breeze block forms nestled in the old Australian schoolyards, the Surry Hills Creative High School utilises materiality and transparency to reinvent the relationship between institution and community. For aspiring creatives the public domain of Prince Alfred Park becomes a place for exhibition, performance, and networking. Glass shop-like facades line intersecting public pathways providing opportunities for students’ work to connect with the surrounding professional and creative community. As the student ascends, the architectural language takes on an array of modes. Library spaces exist fully enclosed to preserve content whilst teaching spaces remain  flexible with sliding glass partitions opening to courtyards and garden roofs, facilitating a myriad of learning typologies.
